NEEMAMO MISHKANAN SNAPSHOTS

Are you wondering what it was like for the paddlers in Neemamo Mishkanan on their epic canoe journey up the Mattagami and Moose River? Here are some amazing shots from the trip courtesy of photographer Sean Landsman!

11 Moose Cree First Nation youth paddled ~200km in 8 days from Kipling Dam near Kapuskasing all the way to Moose Factory! The weather and water proved challenging but nothing this group couldn’t handle. The group went from a heatwave start-of-the-trip to chilly days at the end. They handled whatever the rivers threw at them: tackling whitewater rapids, pulling their canoes through low water levels, and canoeing long days on stretches of wide, deep sections.

Along the way they grew their strength and resilience, spotted many a bird with Wildlife Conservation Society Canada staff, learned from Moose Cree First Nation Resource Protection staff about hydroelectric activities’ history in the Moose Cree Homeland, and learned teachings/stories from a Moose Cree Knowledge Holder! Not to mention all the fishing, laughs, smiles, and support from each other and MHO Adventures

We’ll be posting more throwbacks and memories in the months to come, so stay tuned!
